Seating Chart Generator

Make a classroom seating chart in minutes: free, no account, and printing has no watermark. Pick a layout, seat everyone randomly with your rules, then drag students to fine-tune.

Loading your classes…

How to use it

  1. Choose your class from the menu at the top, or type names into the box. Pick a layout such as rows, pairs or tables of 4, then use Fit to class to get the right number of desks.
  2. Click Seat randomly. Students who must be kept apart are never placed side by side, and anyone who needs a front seat gets one.
  3. Drag a student onto another desk to swap them, or click one student and then another desk. Print the chart, or press Present to show it on the board as students come in.

Questions teachers ask

Is this seating chart maker really free?

Yes. There's no account, no trial and no watermark on printed charts. Everything runs in your browser, and charts for saved classes are kept there automatically.

How do I stop two students sitting together?

Open Rules and choose the two students with "keep apart from". Seat randomly then never puts them at the same table or in desks next to each other, in front or behind. The same rules work in the group generator.

Can I make sure some students sit at the front?

Yes. Add a "needs a front seat" rule for students who need to be near the board. The front means the first row of desks, every seat at a front table, or the front half of a U-shape.

Can I design my own room layout?

Choose Custom, then Edit desks and click squares to add or remove desks until the grid matches your room. Switching to Custom starts from the layout you already had.

Can I keep more than one chart for a class?

Yes. Use New chart for a different arrangement, such as one for tests and one for group work, or Duplicate to try a variation. Charts are saved with the class and included in your backup file.

What happens to absent students?

Absent students keep their desk and are shown as absent, so the chart still works when they're back. Students you remove from the class are taken off the chart automatically.
