RosterKit for schools
A one-page summary for district reviewers, data protection officers and IT staff. RosterKit needs no accounts and keeps no student data on our servers: class lists stay in the teacher's own browser.
At a glance
- Accounts
- None. Teachers and students never sign up or log in.
- Student data on our servers
- None. Class lists are stored in the teacher's browser (local storage) and never uploaded.
- Cookies

- Third-party scripts
- Cloudflare Web Analytics only: cookieless, aggregate page views. No ad, social or tracking scripts.
- Ads
- None today. If ever added: never in present mode, never on core classroom tools, never personalised.
- Microphone
- Only the noise meter, only after the teacher presses Start listening. Audio is analysed on the device and never recorded or sent.
- Cost
- Free. No trial, no credit card.
- Devices
- Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, including Chromebooks, Windows, Mac, iPad and phones.
How data flows
The browser downloads RosterKit's pages, which are the same static files for everyone. When a teacher types a class list, it is saved in that browser on that device and used there by every tool. Nothing the teacher types is sent back. The only thing that leaves the browser is an anonymous page-view count for Cloudflare Web Analytics.
Domains the site loads
If your web filter uses an allow list, these are the only domains involved:
- rosterkit.talha-shahid-1009.workers.dev
- The site itself: pages, scripts, fonts and images. Fonts are self-hosted, so nothing loads from Google or other font services. Required.
- static.cloudflareinsights.com
- The cookieless analytics script. Optional: every tool works if it's blocked.
- cloudflareinsights.com
- Receives the anonymous page-view counts from that script. Optional.
Backing up classes
Because classes live in the browser, clearing site data removes them, and some shared Chromebooks clear it automatically when a user signs out. Teachers can keep a copy like this:
- Open Your classes.
- Press Download backup. This saves one file with every class, its seating charts and its name picker history.
- To restore, or to move classes to another computer, open Your classes there and press Import file.
- For a single class as a spreadsheet, open the class and press Download CSV.
The backup file stays wherever the teacher saves it, such as their school drive. It is never uploaded to RosterKit.
Accessibility
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA across the site. In practice that means:
- every control works with a keyboard and shows a visible focus ring
- text meets AA colour contrast, and colour is never the only way information is shown
- wheel and chart colours are chosen to stay distinct for colour-blind students
- animations switch off when the device asks for reduced motion, and results then appear instantly
- present mode shows large text for the back of the room, with a light or dark screen
Known limitations: dragging students between desks on the seating chart needs a mouse or touch, but clicking one student and then another desk does the same without dragging. The noise meter needs a microphone.
This is our target, not an independent audit. If something doesn't work with your assistive technology, email talha.minhaj01@gmail.com and we'll fix it.
Privacy agreements
Since RosterKit doesn't collect or store student data, many reviews can be completed from this page and our privacy policy.
If your district needs a signed data privacy agreement or a vendor questionnaire, email talha.minhaj01@gmail.com with the form and your deadline.
