Privacy policy
RosterKit is built so that student data never reaches us. Class lists, seating charts and pick history are saved in your own browser, and nothing you type into a tool is sent to our servers.

The short version
- Student names stay in your browser. We never receive them.
- No accounts, no sign-up and no cookies.
- The noise meter listens on your computer only. Audio is never recorded, saved or sent.
- We count page views anonymously, without cookies and without anything that identifies you or your students.
- There are no ads today. If we ever add them, they will never appear in present mode and never be personalised.
What is stored, and where
When you save a class, RosterKit keeps it in your browser's local storage on the device you're using. That includes:
- class names and student names, plus any optional short tags you add (for example a reading level)
- who is marked absent
- your keep-apart, keep-together and front-row notes
- saved seating charts
- name picker turns and pick history
- scoreboard teams, their members and their points
- when you last downloaded a backup
- whether you prefer a light or dark projector screen
This information stays on your device. It is only copied somewhere else if you choose to download a backup or CSV file, and that file is yours to keep or delete.
Names typed straight into a tool without saving a class, timer settings, bingo cards and the questions you ask the yes or no wheel are kept in memory only. They disappear when you close the tab.
The last groups you made, and a scoreboard used without a saved class, are kept in this tab's session storage so you can move between tools. Closing the tab deletes them.
Clearing your browser's site data deletes everything RosterKit has stored, and some shared Chromebooks do this automatically. That's why the Your classes page reminds you to download a backup.
What we never collect
- Student names or any other class data
- Microphone audio
- Your name or email address, unless you email us
- Cookies, advertising identifiers or browser fingerprints
- Your precise location
We don't sell or share personal information, because we don't have any to sell or share.
The noise meter and your microphone
The noise meter only asks for your microphone when you press Start listening, and your browser asks you to allow it first.
It measures how loud the room is about 20 times a second, entirely on your computer. The sound itself is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. When you press Stop listening or leave the page, the microphone is released and your browser's microphone indicator turns off.
Analytics
To see which tools teachers use, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It doesn't use cookies or local storage, and it doesn't build a profile of you across visits or across websites.
It gives us totals only, such as how many times a page was viewed, which page or website sent the visitor, the country, the type of browser and device, and how quickly pages loaded. We can't see who you are, and it never sees anything you type into a tool.
Cloudflare processes this on our behalf under its own privacy policy.
Hosting
RosterKit is a set of static pages served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver pages and to protect the site from attacks. We don't run our own servers, keep server logs or receive your IP address.
Apart from the analytics script above, fonts and scripts are served from RosterKit itself, not from other companies' servers.
Ads
There are no ads on RosterKit today. If that changes, these rules apply, and we will update this page before any ad appears:
- never in present mode, so nothing but the tool appears on your projector
- never on the core classroom tools, only on general pages such as the coin flip or the yes or no wheel
- contextual only, based on the page's topic and never on you or your browsing
- never personalised and with no advertising cookies
Children and schools
RosterKit is designed for teachers. Students see the projected screen, but they don't need accounts and don't enter information into the site.
Because we don't collect personal information from anyone, including children, we don't hold student records. Schools and districts can read our summary for schools.
Your choices
You're in control of everything RosterKit stores. Delete a class on the Your classes page, or clear this site's data in your browser settings to remove everything at once.
Backup and CSV files you download are ordinary files on your computer. Delete them like any other file.
Changes to this policy
If we change how RosterKit handles data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. We'll never start collecting student data without saying so clearly on this page first.
