Classroom Timer

A big, clear countdown for your board. Pick a time, press Space to start, and show a shrinking pie, a bar or huge digits that the back row can read. There's a stopwatch too.

Timer style

How to use it

  1. Pick a quick time such as 5 min, or type your own minutes and seconds and press Set timer.
  2. Press Start or the Space bar. Space pauses it again, R resets it, and +1 min adds time without stopping.
  3. Press Present (or F) to fill the screen. The colour changes in the last minute and the last 10 seconds, and a sound plays when time is up.

Questions teachers ask

Does the timer keep going if I switch tabs or my laptop is busy?

Yes. The timer works from the clock, not by counting ticks, so it stays exact if you switch to your slides or another tab. The end sound still plays when time is up.

Will my screen go to sleep while the timer runs?

In most browsers, no. While a timer is running the page asks the device to keep the screen on, and lets it sleep again when you pause or the time is up.

Can students see it from the back of the room?

Press Present (or the F key) for a full-screen timer with huge digits. Choose Digits for the largest numbers, or Pie for a shape younger students can read without telling the time.

Which end sound should I choose?

Chime is clear without being alarming, School bell cuts through a noisy room, and Gentle suits quiet reading or calm-down time. Use Test to hear each one first, or pick No sound.

Can I get a warning before time runs out?

Tick "Beep at 1 minute left" for a soft beep with a minute to go. The display also turns amber in the last minute and red in the last 10 seconds, so students can see time running low.

Is there a stopwatch?

Yes. Switch to the Stopwatch tab to count up, with tenths of a second and laps. It's handy for timed reading, fitness tests and science experiments.
